I guess it’s safe to say that the 22-23 season is now over.
This season didn’t go as I planned but in the end it turned out to be a really nice one. Few things worth mentioning:
- reunited with the orange exelpoles (thanks jupehynn)
- I need new boots, and promise to get them
- I need bigger pants
- I have fallen in love with skiing again, thank you terveystalo for giving me a bit fresher knee.

Last days or nights of skiing for this season. The spring came fast with rain and clouds and no refreezing in the nights causing the snow to disappear fast and giving us somewhat limited amounts that perfect spring skiing. The season was good, we had two violent avalanche cycles, but not the same presistant instability problems as previous years. Thanks to everyone I`ve had the honour to share the snow with and ski you again next winter. Now we`re off for a month of summer holidays before the climbing season kicks in.
Lyngenin poikkikulun pohjoispuolisko oli seikkailullinen. Sää ja lumiolosuhteet vaihtelivat ja jäärautoja käytettiin, laskeuduttiin köydella ja jäähakku oli kovassa käytössä. Hyvää laskua isossa maastossa ja jäätiköiden ylityksiä sai kokeneerkin laskiat tuntemaan itseään pieneksi.
Olosuhteet oli otolliset pitkille tasasille osuuksille, yöpakkaset oli jäädyttänyt sulanneen pinnan kovaksi niin luisteluhiihtoa tuli laaksonpohjilla harrastettua, tällöin matka sujui hyvin sujuvasti.
Kokonaisuudessa tuli n. 150 km ja 14000 korkeusmetriä, seitsemän päivää, kuusi mökkiä ja Lyngenin suurin seikkailu.

Last ski day of the season was mostly cloudy, with 35cm of fresh untouched heavy snow (not powder this late in the season) at the top of the mountain. Lower elevations were slush, but Imperial, North America`s highest ski lift, brought us to decent conditions. Even the short drizzle in the afternoon didn`t bother us, because accf82 and I used that time to grab beers and catch up. ♥️
I`ve been thinking about getting new skis for a couple seasons now, so I used the day to test two sets of pususkis (thanks paulikervinen for the loan!). First reaction: yeah I definitely need new skis... I tried out Loska Spinnovas first, which were delightfully lightweight to carry to the slopes and behaved great in uneven terrain, but slightly too long for my skills (their shortest available length is 172cm) and I did manage to come down head first a black diamond slope at one point. I also tried out Kelos and they were great on the groomed slopes, but lack the floatation I`d need for the powdery back bowls of Colorado resorts. I`m now looking at Lappis, but punting the decision to next season... In any case, if you`re on the lookout for new skis, and you think a sustainable pair hand made in Finland out of FSC certified wood materials would be cool, check out Pusu.

Arktisia linjoja voi toukokuussa laskea yöllä. Tähän vuodenaikaan ajoitus on tärkeää niin valon kuin etenkin lumen koostumuksen ja stabiliteetin kannalta. Korkein huippu jätettiin omaan rauhaan, koska isojen lumilippojen alla ei haluttu liikkua, kun yöllä ei kunnolla jäätynyt ja auringon vaikutus oli hyvin merkittävä jo klo 4 aamulla.
the Offwknd - AURINKO
Tunturi solisee ja t-paita piirtää rajaa hiihtäjän käsivarteen. On toukokuu ja kaikki ne kesäiset unelmat, mitä pöllöillä Offwkndin suhteen on ollut, kävivät jälleen toteen. Valkoiset leegot hymyssä kisailee tunturin kanssa, joka on juuri käynnyt kahdelle karvalle.
