PUSU x Moomin Limited edition brings Tove Jansson's original illustrations to unique finnish ski designs

PUSU x Moomin -erikoismallisto tuo Tove Janssonin alkuperäiskuvitukset uniikkeihin suomalaisiin laskettelusuksiin

PUSU and Moomin Characters release a special edition of handmade alpine skis and responsibly produced apparel. The collection consists of two ski models and a hoodie for kids and adults. The batch of skis will be numbered to the quantity of 50 pairs.

PUSU is a Finnish, sustainable skis company. PUSU’s values include respect for nature, friendship and freedom. These are also shared with the Moomin brand. The inspiration for the collaboration is naturally derived from the story of Moominland Midwinter (1957), where Moomintroll discovers the world of winter with all its marvels, including skiing, for the first time in his life.

“It’s called skiing. It makes you rush ahead like lightning, in a cloud of whirling snow and you’ve got to look sharp, or else.”

-Moomintroll

The models for this collection are slope ski Kelo and all-mountain ski Abisko. Kelo is an easy ski for all groomed slopes. Abisko is a ski for varying conditions and backcountry ski touring. PUSU’s philosophy is to maximize the use of natural materials in all their products.  In addition to the full wood core and real wood top sheet in the entire line-up, the Abisko model has an innovative new structure that replaces traditional enforcement fibers of carbon fiber and fiberglass with sustainable SPINNOVA® fiber made of completely natural raw materials without any harmful chemicals.

Moominland Midwinter illustrations come alive in the top sheet of the skis in a unique way. On the Abisko skis Moomintroll pushes through a blizzard, on the Kelo skis he marvels at crown snow-loaded trees formed by harsh conditions. Both models bear a detail of a  squirrel hopping on the snow surface. The illustrations have been engraved onto the wood with a laser, beautifully preserving the natural wood grains and the details of the original artwork of Tove Jansson.

Skis will be manufactured in a limited batch of 50 pairs that will be numbered, making them unique collectibles.

The collection also includes a relaxed hoodie, with prints of anxious Moomintroll on skis for the first time. The hoodie is sustainably made by Pure Waste, 100% from recycled materials. The model is unisex with sizes for kids and adults alike.

For PUSU the collaboration is an opportunity to reach new international markets.

-The globally renowned Moomin brand is a great platform to present our products to new audiences. Working with Moomin has been exhilarating as we were quick to find a mutual tone through our shared values, PUSU founder and CEO Jani Ahvenainen tells.

PUSU designs and manufactures all its skis and snowboards at its own workshop in Jyväskylä, Finland. The products are already widely known and loved in Finland. The skis were recently awarded with the international ISPO Award for innovation and sustainability.

-It’s fantastic to see how the beloved Tove Jansson’s stories and illustrations have found a new platform in Finnish skis made with respect for nature. It’s a great honor for the Moomin brand to have this collaboration, says Roleff Kråkström, CEO of Moomin Characters.
