The responsible and high-performance PUSU X SPINNOVA® new ski has been honored with the ISPO Award, a recognition from the international sports and outdoor industry’s independent jury for the most innovative and highest quality products of the year. Spinnova debuted with PUSU in composites last November, so the collaboration has quickly become successful.
The award-winning ski model is the PUSU Loska SPINNOVA® for the 2022 season. It is a versatile all-mountain ski, specifically designed to perform well in spring slush. It is strong enough for varying conditions and wide enough to handle softer snow. This model is the second ski developed in collaboration between PUSU and Spinnova. The PUSU Abisko SPINNOVA® was launched for pre-sale in November 2021.
Both the Loska and Abisko models feature high-performance composite construction, replacing traditional fiberglass and carbon fiber fabrics with eco-friendly and natural SPINNOVA® fabric. SPINNOVA® fiber is made from certified wood using clean technology without solvents or harmful chemicals. The eco-friendliness is also reflected in other material choices; the skis are finished with genuine ash veneer.
– The ISPO Award culminates more than ten years of development work in ski making, says PUSU founder and ski maker Jani Ahvenainen. We are proud that Finnish expertise and a genuine commitment to using ecological, natural materials have been recognized in a highly competitive global category. Thanks go to our team, partners, and numerous test skiers who play a crucial role in product development.
For Spinnova, this ISPO Award is the third it has received with a brand partner. Previous awards were given to Bergans’ SPINNOVA® Collection of Tomorrow products.
– This is a particularly great recognition, as we recently made a commercial breakthrough in high-performance SPINNOVA® composites. We truly appreciate the jury’s desire to highlight ecological, competitive innovations. The ISPO Award is as modern and bold as we and our partners, says Spinnova’s Chief Technology Officer and co-founder Juha Salmela.
All PUSU skis and snowboards are designed and manufactured in Finland. SPINNOVA® fiber is also produced in Finland, where Spinnova is building a commercial-scale factory. This marks the beginning of Spinnova and joint venture partner Suzano’s goal to achieve a global annual SPINNOVA® fiber capacity of one million tons within the next 10-12 years.
The ISPO Award ceremony will be held at the ISPO Outdoor trade show in Munich in June. The PUSU Loska SPINNOVA® will be available for pre-sale for the 22-23 season in the spring of 2022.
