“Törkeän hienot” (“outrageously good”) – Riista 2/2026

Ski your own routes.
Head into the nearby forest, cross a field or ski your own route from the cabin. Kaira moves by kick and glide: when you put your weight on the ski, the fixed skin underneath gives grip, and when you unweight it, the ski glides forward.
The binding position is balanced so that the tip rises onto the snow as you ski instead of diving into it. You don’t need to remove the skin on the flat or going downhill, so you keep going on the same pair as the terrain changes.
Skin. The fixed mohair–nylon skin grips for kicking and climbing without grip wax. Snow conditions and load affect the balance of grip and glide. The glide base and the skin are cared for with suitable methods as you use them.
Kaira tested by Riista.
The Finnish magazine Riista tested the 172 cm Kaira in issue 2/2026.
“Every now and then we get products to test that make you really want to own them. The Finnish-made Pusu Kaira 172 forest skis are exactly that.” (translated from Finnish)
Choose Kaira for your own routes.
Choose the length by terrain and the edges by snow and route.
140 cm: Agility for dense forest.
The shorter Kaira is easier to handle between trees and in boggy thickets.
172 cm: Float on deep snow.
Choose the longer Kaira when you want float for trips in natural snow. The 172 cm Kaira floats as well as a 230 cm forest ski.
With steel edges
More grip on harder snow and for descents.
Without steel edges
For flat forest trips and walking with a dog.

Head out in your own winter boots.
We deliver Kairas ready to ski: Universal backcountry bindings mounted and bases waxed. You don’t need separate ski boots.
The Universal binding fits sizes 36–46. It suits outdoor boots with flexible soles, and the size can be adjusted without tools. A ratchet strap secures your boot in the binding. Stiff-soled hiking, mountaineering and ice-climbing boots do not fit this binding.
If you already have backcountry ski boots or another binding system, we’ll agree on a suitable setup separately.

Handmade. Built to be serviced.
Kaira is made by hand in Laukaa, Finland. Inside is an ash wood core and triaxial glass fibre; on top, a real matt-lacquered wood veneer. Olive ash and curly birch give the pair a different look, and the wood’s own pattern varies from pair to pair.
With Kaira you pay for serviceable gear made in Finland and a pair that comes ready to ski. It can stay in use long after the first scratches.

FAQ
What do I need to get going?
Your Kairas arrive waxed with Universal backcountry bindings already mounted. You also need outdoor boots that fit the binding, and poles.
The Universal binding fits flexible-soled boots in sizes 36–46. Stiff-soled hiking, mountaineering and ice-climbing boots do not fit this binding. In deep snow, large baskets help your poles float better.
What makes up Kaira’s price?
Kaira is made by hand in Finland. The construction has an ash wood core and glass fibre, with a real wood veneer on top. The fixed grip skin and the dimensions are chosen for skiing in natural snow.
The ready-to-ski pair includes Universal backcountry bindings, their mounting and waxed bases. Later, the base, edges and wood surface can be serviced in our workshop. Service is ordered separately as needed.
Does Kaira need waxing, and can the wood surface be serviced?
No grip wax is needed, as the grip comes from the fixed skin. The glide base and the skin are cared for with suitable methods and products.
The matt-lacquered wood surface can also be refinished. PUSU Full Service combines base and edge service with sanding and re-treating the wood veneer.
When will I get my Kairas, and can I return them?
